This excellent watercolor painting by Leonardo Nierman features an abstract design of broad lines washed with color. In somber tones of gray, orange and yellow, Nierman has conveyed a sense of action, motion and excitement.

Leonardo Nierman (born 1932) is a Mexican artist of Ukrainian and Lithuanian descent. He is primarily self-taught, although he did seek out the advice of renowned Mexican painter David Alfaro Siqueiros with regard to color. In 1959, his work was purchased by IFA Gallery in Washington DC, paving the way for his international career. His work can be found at Princeton University and in the collections of the Vatican, the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum of Fine Art in Boston.
