Stainless Steel, 24 x 9.5 x 7.25 in
“Untitled (Abstract)” is a Stainless Steel Sculpture with a wooden base by the artist Marian Owczarski. Its date of creation is unknown. The piece is in Good Condition-the wooden base shows signs of age and handling; the steel sculpture shows signs of oxidation and has minor scratches throughout. This sculpture depicts an abstract structure with a steampunk aesthetic. The artist’s signature is engraved into a flat sheet of metal connecting the sculpture to the base.
Marian Owczarski (1932-2010) served as Artist-in-Residence at St. Mary’s Galleria in Orchard Lake, MI for almost 40 years. Owczarski explained that stainless steel was his chosen medium because “steel represented the future. Plus, the melt temperature of stainless steel is nearly 5000 degrees. Stainless will be around after a nuclear holocaust.” Born in Poland, he was the only living member of his family after World War II. He began sculpting in 1945 and emigrated to the US in 1970. His works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and reflect heavily on his experiences as a survivor of war and trauma.
